McCloskey set for BTRDA
Former Northern Ireland Rally Champion Connor McCloskey is set to contend this year’s REIS / Get Connected BTRDA Rally Series aboard his ex-Seamus Devine Subaru Impreza WRC.
The Kilrea man, who became the youngest ever* Northern Ireland Champion when he won the title in 2008, intends to contest the opening three rounds of the championship and then reassess his plans.
“It will be difficult,” Connor admitted to RallyForums.com. “It will be a bit like going to the Dogleap or Lakeland Stages at home, with the locals already having an idea of where they’re going. But we’ll give it a go.”
“It will be interesting to see where the pace of the Northern Ireland Championship is against the likes of the BTRDA,” he added.
Another N.I. champion who has considered a trip across the water is Derek McGarrity. He has since decided to contest the opening three rounds of both the Irish Tarmac and Northern Ireland championships but hasn’t ruled out a visit to the forests in Great Britain later in the season.
*Stuart Biggerstaff later became the youngest ever Northern Ireland champion when he won the title in 2010.
